    Hi Nora,

Good to hear from you - and more good news about Greg. He does need to rest between all these procedures to build up his body and immune system. I'm glad the Halo procedure is done.

How is Anna doing? And how are you doing? I do pray that you will continue to stay in good health - and good spirits too, Nora. And please get some rest!

I thought I'd post a picture of a "typical" halo brace used for neck and back injuries. As I mentioned I'm a nurse and one of my patients wore one for a couple of months.

Greg's may differ a bit - but halo braces are basically similar

How it fits on the patient.

    Good to hear.

He'll be up and moving in no time (besides his head/neck) and able to take some of the load off your shoulders. Until then Keep up the good work, and don't let anyone tell you other wise.

Thanks Liz for the visual. I was told that Greg's brace will be attached to a body brace to take care of those thoracic fx 6-10...:( Greg still has a long road ahead of him but I am grateful he is on that road headed to recovery and healing. Also his nurse said it won't be long before Greg can sit up and that will help his lungs heal quicker too.

Gary, thank you for your kind words, but truth bids me to remind everyone that Greg and I are separated and have been for 10months now. I never hide from the truth, it is very important to me. But the most important thing is as I said earlier, Anna and I love Greg very much. Love reaches into all the hard and difficult places in life and never lets go.

YOU ALL remind me of all that is good and worthwhile in this world. Good begets good and I think Photo John begat something very good here....:)

    Update:

Greg will be getting a trach afterall. It is scheduled for tomorrow. Several factors: he's still on the vent (although very close to being extubated) but due to the halo if Greg were to need to be re-intubated quickly this could not be done.(in order to place the vent tubing his neck would have to be hyper extended and his neck can't do that) So, the trach allows airway passage. Greg is still heavily sedated but that is also being weaned. All his vital signs still look good and he remains in stable condition. Please continue to keep Greg in your prayers as I know you have been and as you guys know, they are deeply appreciated.

    God bless you all, Nora

A HUGE thank you too to Aaron and to all of you for your generosity to have a fundraiser for Greg. When he is able to he will be so overwhelmed at all the kindness and love extended to him. He will be very appreciative, I know. Thank you so much for doing that for him. I personally have been overwhelmed at all the responses, concern and prayers that come from PR. I know I sound like a broken record, but I must echo these words again, [I]good begets good and it is my prayer that the good that has been given comes back to all of you in a special way. :)

I just had a funny thought. When Greg gets to his regular hosp room and then gets hold of a camera, he will prob take all sorts of hospital shots... LOL..a furnace room, laundry, anywhere in the dark bowels of a big hospital no one else would want to tread, (hopefully he can find a place somewhere with grafitti splattered on it) ...LOL.. Just think of his
    "capture a stranger" shots....:)

I have wondered this myself. I'm sure someone could rig up a mount and attach the camera directly to the halo. :)

Your kind words of faith and strength have helped me much. Don't ever apologize for being you. You are a gift.

Thanks, Nora. :) My hope and intent is for good.

-- and Frog, pay no attention to me -- I'm sometimes too sensitive! :D

I find it most intriguing as I watch an online group of "strangers" pull together with and for you and Greg in this tragedy that presents itself in your lives.

Although sometimes necessary to read between the lines, the full spectrum of human emotions from tears and fears to trust and faith are present in this thread; from the casually curious lurking on the sidelines to the full-blown all-out effort of launching a fundraiser and all degrees of generosity in between those extremes -- it's all here.

My feeling is that doing the wrong thing is better than doing nothing at all -- hey, if you stick you foot in and have to apologize -- at least a person knows you care!! :D

So, I always want to be part of the solution and not the problem -- as do many, many others here.

I consider it an honor to be a small piece in this big picture of people who care.

    Blessings to all.

I was so sorry to see this thread when logging on today. I hoping and praying for a speedy recovery.

Greg lent me a couple of lenses a few months back. The last time I messaged him he said hold onto them for a while. I was about to send him another note asking if he wanted me to send them back to him or pass them along to another member.

Please let him know I am thinking of him and that his lenses will be safe with me until he needs them again.

yeah, he may take some "flapping in the wind gown shots" of some innocent patient's
bottom while he's strolling down the hall. LOL. He wouldn't....but it's still funny. There should be a law somewhere that patient's gowns are big enough to cover the entire body. Instead of "capture a stranger" it would be "capture a bottom"....:)

I talked to Greg's nurse earlier and she told me no changes today either. His temp is down. They had decreased his vent settings but moved it back up to let his lungs
rest again. His vent settings will be up and down for awhile. Greg's dr, (the main surgeon in charge of Greg) told me today that Greg will recover, but it will take a long while. He said he could not give me an approximate time frame but only that it will be long term instead of short term. In my mind, I'm kind of taking things in steps. I want Greg to get off the vent, become conscious, get to a regular room, get through rehab, get back to being Greg.

    I echo drg's words...."He'll get there"....yes!

Smart thinking! This is the only way to accompany Greg on this challenging journey right now. Just a note to let you all know Greg is still good, both shifts today reported "no changes" to me. He's still breathing on his own over the vent but has episodes of apnea that have to be resolved before the dr considers taking him off the vent. This is more than likely due to the heavy sedation Greg is under and that too is being slowly weaned.

Have a good night everyone. Nora

    Still checking...

    Still praying...

Still thanking the Lord for the progress -- slow progress -- but progress nonetheless...

Don't let the slow pace discourage you. All things work together for good to them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. Romans 6:28 -- or is it 8:28... can't remember.
