Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Wow... last I'd read, Greg was scheduled for Friday. Very sorry to hear that things haven't gone as planned. But Danic is right; sometimes it is a case of one step/two steps and, as OT said, hopefully both Greg and the doctor will be better-rested and, ultimately, better-prepared to handle to the challenges of the next surgery and complete the work remaining.
Thank you for the updates, Nora. You, Greg, and family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Better days ahead...

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Nora,
So sorry to hear that things didn't go as planned. Please tell Greg that I'm thinking of him.
I hope that he is fit enough for the next stage soon.
Glad to see your holding up so well. Offer my best wishes to the rest of the family.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Hi everyone...BETTER news today.....:) Greg is responding to the antibiotics, fever down, almost gone. YEAH! You all helped me, I was really low last night. I saw the glass half empty and I am not a half empty glass person. Then I read your encouraging words that were insightful too. Sometimes a person can be so involved in something that you can't get a full perspective of it. I wish I could give you all a big ole southern hug.....:)
Greg's vital signs are all still good too.......:)

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Thank you so much for letting us know, Nora - that's wonderful news :)
Nora, do you have family or friends looking after you and Anna? I really hope so, you need looking after too so you can keep your strength and spirits up!
I'll keep on praying for you all.
Love,
Mette

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Nora,
Did Greg's camera get recovered or was it broke? I am sure he has asked about it. If it was hurt, find out what one it was and I'll try to send him a new one. I know it seems like a funny thing to do but I owe the old fella. Please let me know it would mean a lot.

Tyson, I'm not sure if he ended up taking it but, he told me he was going to be shooting the bridge with his Mamiya.

Digital or an old film camera? I am not familiar with the name.
-
Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Its an older medium format camera.
-
Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Hi Tyson, it was a Mamiya M645 with an 80mm f/1.9. Again though, I'm not 100% certain that is what he took but, that is what he mentioned that morning. I sent you a pm, you know I'm definitely on board for anything

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Hi Nora and I apologize for my lateness on this, but please pass on our prayers to Greg and your daughter and of course yourself. We will be keeping you all and the Drs. and nurses in our thoughts in the days and weeks to come.
Sounds like Greg is a fighter and so I know he will fight his way through the rest of this and be back up and at 'em again real soon.
I guess I'll have to keep a better eye on this forum, at least until Greg is all better.
Keep up your faith and strength and take care of yourself in all of this.
And please pass on to Greg...GET WELL SOON!!!!

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
I thought Tyson's gift idea was so nice, I wanted to send my gift as well.
Maybe others have photo gifts of bears, or healthy fruit or more flowers or something that might cheer Nora and Greg and they go through this trying experience.
(Although a P&S, this Summer '08 photo is special to me because it was one of the first things I ever did that wasn't on "Auto.")
Nora and Greg: I hope it brightens your day, and reminds you of all who care for you and that we are sending our prayers and good thoughts on your behalf.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Just heard (thanks Aaron) -
Hope things are going as well as can be expected. 25 feet is a pretty serious fall, especially if he hit pavement or another very hard surface. Very glad to hear that he has movement in his extremities. Please keep us informed. I'm sure he's in a lot of pain but that's to be expected immediately after such an accident. Time will tell how things work out. So just look at the bright side - no paralysis and no head damage - and go from there. Tell Greg that GB says HI, and that he will be photographing again sometime soon.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Hi Greg,
You don't know me, I am new here.
However I have learned much from reading your posts and I really enjoyed your photos.
Here's wishing you a fast recovery.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
YOU ALL ARE SO AWESOME...I will never forget your kindness. Never.
I told Zach I think it was his Olympus. I don't have it. Greg's boss has it , he was going to try and get it fixed. I would trust it more in the hands of you guys bc you know cameras and he doesn't. Smile. Tyson, thank you, Aaron, thank you, Liz, I can't list you all bc there are so many. I am overwhelmed at your responses, encouragement and concerns. All of you..... heartfelt thanks many times over!
Greg is still on target for his type of injury. He is still on the vent, his lungs really took a beating in the fall. (It was more like a 3 story fall instead of 25 feet like I was originally told) it was approx 35 to 40 feet. As soon as his lungs are strong enough to get his oxygen rate up to par then the surgery will be scheduled for the back part of his neck. He is scheduled for a trach in the next few days. It is common to use a trach for pts on a ventilator for an extended length of time. The trach allows for the vent tubing to be inserted in the lower part of the throat and bypasses vocal chords that are fragile and more prone to injury from the vent. His temp and pnuemonia are gone...:) All of his vitals are good. His body is also starting to get rid of a lot of swelling that had me concerned. All Greg's vital organs are good, he isn't on any type of "pressins" for bp issues and heart rate issues. No internal bleeding. I do believe his drs when they say he is expected to recover. He is still in "critical condition" and in intensive care. But he will get better. He will, he will, he will.
Bye for now....Nora

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Very, very encouraging news Nora. I know it is a long up hill struggle for Greg and for you. But you have to have faith in what your doctors are telling you and be encouraged by all the positive signs that Greg is expediting. Don't think for a minute that you and Greg are alone in this struggle. You have a huge PR family that is thinking of you every moment and praying for Greg's full recovery and for strength for you to endure the long hours and days that you have to get through. Keep up you spirits and call on us when you need to. Most of us are many miles away but our hearts and minds are at your side.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
That's all good news! He is beginning to heal. It will take time, but it's great to hear the Drs. say he'll make it back to 100%. Let us know when his next procedure is scheduled.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
I am so glad to hear the good news and am with you both on the path to recovery. Thank you for keeping us informed. - Terry

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
This is sounding better! Thankyou for the update, Nora.
How are his spirits holding up? And how are yours, too?
This must be very rough on you so I always remember you in my thoughts and prayers, too.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Great news!
I was thinking about him while I was sitting on a bridge today while out shooting. Glad things are getting better.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
This is very encouraging news Nora, and thank you for continuing to keep us updated. I also hope that you are holding up OK under the weight of all of this, and you guys will both continue to remain in our thoughts daily.

Nora,
Thanks so much sharing such good news with us. Although there is a long way to go, his progress is amazing for all that he has been through.
Has Greg been conscious long enough - with all the medications and complications - for you to be able to communicate with him? When he gets the trach it will be much more comfortable for him and easier to communicate.
You can rest assured that Kevin and Chris and Angela will be remembered in our thoughts and especially our prayers.
I hope you're able to get some rest, Nora. We look forward to your updates, and as Larry (Old Timer) said, you have a large extended family here at PR that will continue to pray and support you through it all.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident
Yeah, Good News!!
It seems to me that to have even survived a fall like that in the first place and then to be in as good a shape as he is, relatively speaking, of course, is simply a miracle. There is surely a reason for all that...
Still praying for Greg and you and all those that care for him. It says much about you in that you are concerned for the well-being of his ex-wife.
I risk getting too personal here and I surely don't know what is best for the two of you, but my prayers include that you and Greg will resolve your marriage issues in a way that is best for all. Please forgive me if I am too personal here, but I am a firm believer in the power of God to change things, and I do care.
