Greetings from NZ

Figured I'd eventually get around to posting a hello from NZ thread, so here goes.

I've been here for about...hmm, a month and a half now? Classes started a couple weeks ago, they're going well and they're all photo related, two practical and one theory. Shooting triathlons, since they're very fitness oriented here in NZ, especially wellington. I have decided to start training for a triathlon myself, so it sparked my interest in a docu on triathletes. What else?... Everyone's much friendlier here than in the US, but kiwis are a couple years behind as far as technology goes. And milk doesn't taste as good.

oh, im one of the most behaved ones. Kiwi university students are pretty rambunctious. I have my moments though.

Yeah, a bit of culture shock. The biggest thing was just living in a city. I had never done it before, so it took some adjusting. I think the culture shock going back to the states is going to be much worse.

You'll notice the taste because the milk is real not full of additive rubbish
If I wasn't so old (too old without lots of $$$) I'd be emigrating out there myself.

Everyone assumes that because New Zealand is a giant dairy country that the milk is great, but in fact NZ exports most of its dairy. The dairy products that they sell here are either imported or NZ's rejects. strange system...

I didn't like fresh milk the first time I had it on a farm. That's out of the cow fresh. It loses so much in the pasteurisation treatment, like the bacteria for a start. After two weeks when I went back home, I realised what I was missing - taste.

I thought of NZ more as a meat producer than dairy, more lamb than beef. I don't think much of their other exports get as far as the UK.
Though what can be exported to Australia (which has to be the #1 trading partner) is different from what's practical to export to Europe.
