    Rural Photography Documentary Project

    Hi,

I am doing a rural photography documentary project at uni, and am looking for some inspiration but want to do something that hasnt been done to death. I have to do a series of 6 photos. A couple of ideas I have had are:

Contrasting the rural scene with the urban. I live by Sussex downs and you can see Brighon from the top.

Rural machinery, i.e. see if there is any interesting agricultral bits around

    Rural signposts

Or just drive around looking for unusual things...

    Help!!!

How about the hardship the government and large supermarkets impose on farmers, you would need to get in touch with a small farm to discuss the impact and then work out how to show this in pictures.

A friend of mine did this awhile back. He was out shooting, just personal stuff, and struck up a conversation with the farmer who owned the land. He spent the day with him and got some interesting pictures. I think that trying to talk to a farmer would be a great idea - it may lead you down a path to take the project.

I've done a couple of commercial agricultural series and a commission in the past two years. Some of that has been posted here at PR.

I'll dig up the links later today, but there are some in my gallery (one call a Rake I believe) and some posts ranging from burned equipment, to a b/w tractor scene, to landscapes. Look in the film forum at Consider C-41 for and idea or two in the landscape realm. These are film, but there's one or two in the same series posted that are digital. I link them later.

Here's an idea I had some time back called The Awful Truth About Sunflowers, contrasting the beauty of the flower with its lackluster environment.
