On eBay, I once bought a Sigma 50-500mm lens, new in box (Nikon mount, of course) for $300. It retails for $999. I shot with it for 2+ years then turned around and sold it used, but in VG condition and the bidder paid over the retail price...

Love hearing ebay stories like that. I have bought two cameras and a lens or two on ebay and have gotten what I thought were good deal on all of it. I think the main thing to to stay with it. I have lost several items too and have to wonder sometimes why someone would pay musch more than what I think an item is worth just to win a bid. Grads to you on a great buy Janie.

Yes, I agree that people pay too much - I've been watching for a 580EX flash for my XT and they seem to be going for around $350 + shipping. Its $359 from BH after the rebate and I can go there to get it, complete with instant gratification and no shipping charge! I also have been looking for the Gary Fong Lightsphere for it, but not seeing much in the way of good deals on that either.
