    Re: Destruction Of Hurricane Ike

Those are some crazy photos. I don't know anyone that was down on the coast, where things are obviously much worse, but I have a friend in Houston that I've been talking to and my family is about 100 miles north of Houston in East Texas. My friend in Houston is still with out power, and he says gas is hard to find because most of the gas stations don't have power to operate the pumps. Cars are lined up for 1/2 to 1 mile and in some cases fights are actually breaking out at the few gas stations that have power. There's a real concern about getting stranded somewhere or even running out of gas while waiting in line. Trees and power polls are down everywhere, some are just snapped in half. My family 100 miles north of Houston got tropical storm force winds, and their power was out for a day and a half. There is a lot of damage around town, lots of downed trees and signs, but all my mom got was one side of her fence knocked down. She said Rita was worse when it came through a few years ago and ripped shingles off her roof. My mom's been living there almost 40 years and she says besides Rita she has never seen a hurricane come that far north with that much strength. I never saw anything close to that growing up there. The climate is definitely changing.

wow that is crazy! i dont know how that single house in the photos above withstood the power of the storm. i think the owners are extremely lucky.
we had a mini hurricane here with crazy winds, and 150mm of rain a couple weeks ago but nothing like texas has just seen!
