    Facebook? Twitter?

I assume a good number of our members are using Facebook and probably some of you are using Twitter. I know I've mentioned our Twitter account before. But I have only recently been really using the PhotographyREVIEW.com Facebook page. Anyway, PhotographyREVIEW.com is on both sites. So if you're using either one, you can follow or become a fan to keep up on camera and site news.

    Follow PhotographyREVIEW.com on Twitter >>
    Become a PhotographyREVIEW.com fan on Facebook >>

I actually wrote an article about Facebook and Twitter. If you don't know much about the two sites then it might be a good read:

Thanks to those of you who have become PhotographyREVIEW.com fans on Facebook. Since I posted this we've gone from about 20 fans to over 60. We're not taking over Facebook yet.

    Fan but not a friend

I'm a fan but I don't think I'm going to bring me any new friends. Now this isn't being stand-offish, it's purely practical -

    - My Facebook is in French

If you could see what I write on there for others it wouldn't make much sense to you. It's stuff like

    - "Je suis en vacances dans 2 heures et je ne sais pas ce que je vais faire. Quelqu'un veut aller à Madrid ?".
    Rough translation =
"I've had to bring forward my next holidays to tonight to please my client and I don't know what I'm going to do. Anybody want to go to Madrid?"

Seriously, twitter has become more of a PITA than it's worth for me. I've noticed roughly a 3000% increase in spam since joining a month or so ago, and it's almost impossible to sift through all the crap to find usable and interesting tweets

I'm following well over 1000 people with my personal account (http://www.twitter/Photo_John) now. I don't really try to look for relevant stuff. But I'm selective (believe it or not) about who I follow. There is a lot of random stuff, which I actually find pretty entertaining. Some filtration is definitely good. But sometimes, the stuff I wasn't looking for is the stuff that pleases me the most. I also use TweetDeck, which allows me to create groups so I have some organization. I have groups for photography, outdoors and Salt lake City, where I live.

Twitter has a tough learning curve because it's like you, alone, in an empty room when you start. If you start following people and looking at what they're doing it starts to make sense. But until you're following 10 or so active members, it won't make much sense.

My heart still belongs to the MySpace ghetto. I love the low-budget anarchy of MySpace. It's so much more dirty and real than the cookie-cutter online cubicle space of Facebook. But Facebook is a much better marketing medium for me. It just sort of sucked me in. And Twitter - well, Twitter is a whole other problem. I'm an addict. And I don't care

    Re: Facebook? Twitter?

I hated MySpace. For one thing, it forced me to create an unnatural password rather than a variation on one I like to use, and I always forgot it. Then, every time I signed on the only messages I had were from hormonal teenagers I knew who spammed their angst to every friend they had. My adult friends never interacted with anyone, they just marketed themselves. All take, no give. I got really lonely there.

I love facebook because I can sign on whenever I want and see what's happened in the past 24 hours, plus when I've read everything from my friends (who are grownups! with funny and clever yet playful things to say!), I can go to my game apps, where I can passively interact with friends. My friends give of themselves, a lot, on fb, taking the time to comment or at least "like" my posts, etc. I really appreciate them.

I don't have time for Twitter, as I think in order to truly benefit from it, you have to be online for long spans of time (rather than popping in & out a couple of times a day), and it's almost as demanding as chat. If I pop into twitter every so often, I can't respond to anything because it's long past its relevancy period. So I pretty much gave up. I do pop in every so often and look at random links, but not so much anymore.
