    p&s's

i am wondering what everyone shoots with for a p&s if they normally shoot with DSLRs. I just ordered a casio exilim s500 last night just because of its small size, but I am a little worried about the no full manual controls, but I guess the whole point of a p&s is just snapshots.

Using and loving the Olympus 720SW. It's tiny, can hold a 1g card, waterproof and drop proof (resistant, I'd guess). Very little manual control other than the scene modes which I really haven't tried to figure out.

I don't have a true p&s at the moment. I don't really consider the Fuji S602Z a true p&s because of it's size and features. I have loved it from the day that I got it and use it when I don't need or want the interchangeable lenses and of the DSLR. I bought my daughter a Cannon A620 for Christmas last year and I like it pretty well. Would consider it if i were getting one.

yeah i looked at the a line for a little while but then realized that i needed something thinner, something that could just be thrown in my pocket when out having fun on the weekends. the a line's AA batteries are a nice feature, but it makes them bigger. my ex girlfriend and her mom both have a's, the a620 and the a630 respectively, and they both love them.

I have an old Canon G2. Not very small but has lots of features we are use to seeing on typical Canon DSLR. Has a hotshoe and swivel LCD as well. The G-series has moved from G1 to the current G7 (which no longer has a swivel LCD). You can find it for a cheap on EBAY since they retire the models so quickly.

I have an older Sony P&S that I carry but honestly do not use. I am more apt to lug the DSLR along every where in my pack instead. It's one of those... boy I wish I took that with my DSLR situation's.

I use the Minolta G500, which is small with full manual controls as well as auto and I have had great success with it. I am currently considering the Leica D-Lux 3 which unfortunately is bigger, but still has the manual controls. I find the smaller cameras extremely useful in some situations and are great as a backup as well.

I bought a Samsung NV10 as my handy dandy in-my-breast-pocket camera. It really does sit my breast pocket too. I got tired of not having a camera when I needed one, so I picked this one up mostly for candid snaps and when all else fails when you need a camera situations. Liked it so much that it's pretty much all I've been using lately. I like the movie feature on it better than my wife's Canon SD700, no time limits. And it has image stabilization, and ISO 1000 (pretty grainy/noisy from ISO 400 up). The image quality is very good to ISO 200, but it starts color shifting with heavy yellow overcasts at ISO 400 and higher, with dramatic noise at ISO 1000. It is very quick to power on, and quite responsive with focus, even in dark lighting, compared to the SD700. But best of all, it just plain looks COOL.
a couple of shots at ISO 400.

I've been shooting with my trusty 2MP Canon PowerShot A60 for almost 4 years now. It's a great little camera, though it's recently started showing it's age.

It's a great camera. Really very excellent pictures for a 2 MP camera. I bought one for my son, and one of my office partners bought both his kids the same camera. Once upon a time we had three of these in the office for taking quick ID photo snaps of our patients for use in the computer charts. Two of them magically evolved into higher life forms, sprouted legs and walked out of the office without notice:mad2: I suspect they were pilfered either by staff or patients. The third remaining camera got dropped in our hygiene department so many times that it's no longer working. I bought a fourth one used, but that too got dropped a few times (again by our hygiene department), and I finally brought in a fifth A60 (my son's camera-he's still mad at me for donating his camera to the office, but he got his PC upgraded with a GeForce 7800 as part of the deal), and that too got thrashed by hygiene. I bought a new camera, a 6 MP canon A-something or other, and told the hygiene staff that's the last camera I buy them for the next 5 years (three cameras in 4 years is a little ridiculous is you ask me).

I use my Samsung V700. It's pretty high spec, but that's because I bought it when I was still shooting with a film SLR so I wanted a camera which could do serious stuff where digital was more suitable. It's an excellent piece of kit (and I won a local photo comp last year with an image I took on it).

    Cheers

    I use either a Fujifilm 4700Zoom or my wife's Nikon L6 or my Daughter's Richo Caplio R5

All give wonderful results. No wish I'd bought 2 of the L6's as the results are terrific from something so small and the price was outstanding.

I use a Canon A75. It's an upgrade to John's A60. Love that little camera. It fits in my purse, but not in my pocket. I eventually want one of the Elfs. They will fit in your shirt pocket, small like a credit card with manual settings and a lot of MPs.

    Re: p&s's

There is quite a huge range of p&s cameras available on todays market !
Since I don't own a DSLR, I use a p&s HP R967 to create all of my digital images.
It does offer a manual mode, amongst a very broad range of other features,
and will fit easily into any pocket, if you choose to carry it in that fashion,
which I strongly do not recommend !
