Hi all

Here are a few from my trip to Egypt. A bit of a mixed bag ...

a) Another portrait from the market area of Luxor
b) A scene from Luxor Temple - I liked the way a shaft of light fell on this little statue
c) A guardian at Karnak Temple with some statues behind
d) A wall scene from the mortuary temple of Ramses III
e) Me in the Valley of the Kings at the most famous tomb of them all

lucky you. its a dream for me to go over there but Im kinda scared of the security over there plus with my Marine Corps Tattoo would not look good either .lol

racedraper .. actually there were quite a lot of Americans there. Luxor itself is pretty safe. There are loads of hotels, all of which have security. There are tourist police everywhere too(they sit 24/7 outside every hotel, etc). But Luxor is pretty well geared for tourism. I imagine it would be a little dodgy to go much outside it unless you were with a proper escorted tour group.

Egypt is such a fascinating place.
All the photos show a bit that only make me more curious.

Do you happen to know what the rectangular building at the top of the hill is?

Was just thinking if Tut's tomb was in USA it would be surrounded by fast food joints, motels/hotels and flashing lights.

Very nice shots Mike, my ONLY nitpick is that in the first photo, the orange and black plastic bags go a long way to killing the "timeless" element present in shots 2, 3, & 4.

Seriously, you have to get over those fears or you'll miss out on a whole lot in life. I've never been much of a "guided tour" kind of person, and I've been to quite a few *dodgy* areas in the world. Best advice I can give is, don't instigate trouble and there generally won't be any trouble. As long as you don't act like "the ugly american" being demanding, overly assertive/combative, and ill mannered, even in volatile regions you'll be received well by the great majority of the local population. Use basic common sense and you'll be just fine. Nowhere in central America or Eastern Europe did I feel less secure than back home, matter of fact the absolute scariest place I've ever been with regards to personal security was downtown Detroit .

Ohh and do take 15 minutes to memorize a couple of basic phrases in the local language, it will take you SURPRISINGLY far.

I agree with the others and thank you for the pictures as I might not be able to see this wonderful place. Sure would be nice to visit if I have the chance.
