I like the idea of doing the t-shirt too. Unfortunately, I understand the t-shirts are being re-designed right now and the existing ones are black which would make signing it more difficult unless everyone ran out and bought a silver marker...

Maybe next time? And I personally like giving the shirt to the one who took the most popular picture. I wouldn't look at it as a contest, more a community-builder (who wants to wear that smelly shirt anyway? :D)

Besides, I am going to win becasue I live in the Grand Canyon state :D

Greg, you mentioning getting help from the mods/admin. I just wanted to say that you have the blessing of Photo-John and many of the mods already. There is little you have mentioned that a user cannot do themselves. I and the other mods are here to help whenever needed, but I wanted to make sure you knew that you have a green light on this so go! :D If you need specific help managing or creating something, we'll be here, but it sounds like you've got this pretty well under control already, and there are several other members coming up and offering to help out too.

So keep going, keep bouncing your ideas off everyone here to keep it as a community idea, and we'll be here if you need help.

Why do we even need to send a camera? We all have camera's.
Why can't we just send a little figure, perhaps a little PJ figure around the world, and when we get it, take a pic of ourselves holding the figure standing next to a sign with the name of our hometown on it?

Alison, I kind of got the idea from another site that was passing a camera around. It seemed they were having a ball doing it. The camera idea came about before the troll. I am only awaiting word from a couple of members and I hope to get this going very soon.

Well, I'd love to be in on it.
So if we are just sending the figure around the world what do we do? Post our pics the day we receive it?

i think if possible this thread should be "linked to" in the other forums as not everyone comes into the view finder ... also i would give it at least another week for as many people to see it ... then you are going to have to give time for people to sign up also ...

Good enough big Z, That will save me on the postage, maybe we can combine our efforts here in Rome and then send the camera off...

    Re: Camera around the world
Here is a quick update. I ordered a Canon A430 tonight so that's the camera that we will be using. Photo-John highly recomended the camera. It takes AA batteries and I also ordered an SD card.
I thought very hard on what doll to send in the package and finally settled on the Rufus doll, I felt it related more to PR than anything else I have seen. With that being said I hope I don't make anyone mad for choosing Rufus. I also bought a small gift to place in the box for the next recipient of the camera. I have a member here in Rome that wants in on this so we will combine our efforts for pictures here.
All that is left is for members to sign up and get a route planned. Gary Heller has offered to Map out a route and track the camera. I will give more details on that after Gary returns my PM.
The other things are how many pictures should be posted by each member and how long should you keep the camera. I thought about five pictures. But would like some feedback on that. I feel that more than five will be to much once everyone starts posting? I also think that you should keep the camera thru one weekend or off day. I don't want to rush anyone into taking bad pictures because they felt they had to hurry. After all I personally don't care how long it takes for the camera to return. Just as long as everyone gets a turn and has fun, just don't take the camera on a two week cruise to Alaska.LOL
This was just an update to let everyone know that everything is in the works and I hope to soon be mailing the camera. I hope that I don't make anyone mad with any decision that I make. I want this to be simple and fun and the camera to visit as many PR members as possible. I also feel that the rules as such can be modified as we go.

So are we all just stuffing Greg's PM inbox with addresses and then the list will be made or is there an "official" sign up spot?

    Re: Camera around the world
You can go ahead and PM me your location. I don't need a specific address, State and city will work for now. I think just PMing the next particapent as we go will work, that will prevent ones address from floating around everywhere. I think that Gary Heller was wanting to creat a map so I can always forward him the locations. Hopefully we can get going as soon as I get the camera and the Rufus doll. Maybe I can post a list of members in the order it will travel. I think the dead line should be the last day of the month.

    Hey Greg,

I tried to PM you my city and state, but I got a message saying that you were over your quota for PM's.

Sign me up. I'm located in Mineral Point Wisconsin.

I agree that we should get a sticky up here for the purpose of signing up. When one signs up by posting, you need only give city and state. The starting member (Greg) will contact the next on the route and get the exact mailing address. Then when that member is ready to send the camera off, he/she will contact the next member on the route (which will be posted as well as a map that I will be updating as the journey goes on) and will get the mailing address, and so on. . . This way, only one member gets your mailing address. (Actually two, assuming it is sent with a return address) I will try to get a sticky going as soon as possible

Hey Greg, if you want to start a new thread for posting names and cities in, I'll sticky it for you.

I think end of the month for signups is good. That'll give everyone time to sign up. And people could alwyas be added in later as long as the camera has not passed their location on its way around the world...

Then once you've got the list of names, it should be a pretty simple matter to put them in a basic geographical order and repost.

I haven't read the whole post, but I participated in something similar that cost less and was less of a hassle...
You pick a day in time... March 15th for example. Everyone must take a or some pics on that day. Wherever you are in the world. It could be a theme (like people, my hometown, architecture, churches around the world, you get the idea) and then we all upload the pic from home on that date... All done - no shipping, no lost cameras, no buying film, or batteries... No customs, no possibility of losing the data...
Here is the one I participated in:

    Hi Diane,

This is a good suggestion. In fact, it's something that we already do. We started doing projects like this about once ever 3-4 months. The camera around the world is a little bit different spin on the idea.
