Use a Floppy Disk to store you Photos

At a garage sale I thought I was just getting a Pentax KM 35mm camera, but in the bag was a much more interesting surprise. A Sony Mavica (MVC-FD73) digital camera. That's right a 0.3 MP digital camera that used a floppy disk to store the digital files. It came with the battery and charger.

And you know what? It worked! It's funny because these were the first digital cameras that I ever used! Some shots from Doors Open Toronto in Union Station, battery ran out of juice after that. But it still holds a charge!

I think I I have one still, and a spare battery somewhere.

Blast from the past. Funny how it has that "early digital" look to it.

I love the slide/click sound of putting 3.5" disk in the drive. I dunno why. Nice find.

My roommate in college had one of those. I no longer have a computer with a 3.5" disc drive!

That's so cool! I remember those. When I was in college, senior year, '90-'91, we were given digital prototypes from Canon and Sony to experiment with. We thought it was a gimmick... "It'll never take off."

    Great find, thanks for sharing!

A couple of us were talking just last week at the races about how far we'd come since using our Mavicas to cover the races.

I've still got a box with almost 1,000 floppy's with those old race photos. And of course it has been at least two computers since I had a floppy drive to actually access those discs...

    Thanks for sharing that!
