Around DFW

If you travel by air around the US you will go through Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) airport as sometime in your travels. There are 5 terminals with a total of 155 gates. It could be a night mare getting from one gate to another for a connecting flight if not for Skylink the high speed train that encircles all five terminals and can deliver you to your gate in an average of 5 minutes. I recently had a three hour layover at DFW and to kill time just decided to ride Skylink around the entire complex. I had the D200 along with the 12-24 attached. Here are a few images from my tour around DFW.

DFW is enormous. The first time I came through here was in the mid 70's not long after it was completed and it was very difficult to get around. Now with Skylink it's the easiest airport I know of to maneuver around. Trains run on duel tracks (inside and out) and you never have more than a two minute wait for a train.

It's either Atlanta or Dallas regardless of were your going from my area. I prefer Dallas by far.

I haven't flown into DFW but I'll say I prefer it over Atlanta too. Nice shots - funny one of your wife!

Oh, it's still a nightmare if you get out at "A" and your connecting flight is over at "D" - I've done an OJ Simpson running through that airport on more than one occasion! Neat pics.

Cool shots, Larry. I like that wide angle shot of the plane. Nice. Flying out of Austin, a lot flights go through Dallas (American) or Houston (Continental). I much prefer going through Dallas.

I've flown through DFW so many times it's ridiculous. My first experience was going into basic training....needless to say that moment was terrifying and still confusing as they have many many improvements in the past few years alone! I loved your pictures personally beause I always think to myself anytime I'm in an airport, "I should so snap a few pictures" and I never do because they seemed boring to me. But looking at your photos, you really caught the moment and made them into something exciting, each shot reminding me of my own memories! Thanks for sharing!!

One of the things that always impresses me when I go through DFW is the number of military personnel that you see. I think at times they outnumber the civilians. DFW is really a city within itself with two large hotels and as many eating and shopping establishments as any medium size American town. Oh and of course there is a USO club as well.

I know what you mean. It's such a big hub period, and to have basic training right there, it makes it even more flooded with uniforms! You should see Baltimore-it's a big staging airport for us to come through customs-I'll never fly in there if I can avoid it!

One of my best memories of DFW was about a year after Sept 11, I was flying back from a short term assignment in uniform. An older guy came up and thanked me for my service, randomly. It was so awesome to feel appreciated (I know the military is, but for a stranger to thank me in an airport terminal amongst a ton of other service members just made me beam). Pretty neat, naturally seeing your pictures reminds me of those times!

Wow, those are some nice shots of DFW. I've been there only once, and it was confusing for me, but it was fun too. I love airport photos! I grew up in Los Angeles, and my grandmother used to drive us to the fence near the runway where we could lay on her car hood and watch planes taking off. I always want to take photos, but still have yet to go do it! Maybe this is some inspiration for me to go do it! :thumbsup: Thanks for sharing!!

Nice shots--but I've seen 'em all before. I think I used to spend half my life at DFW. One time, I actually had to spend the night there, because the flight out of O'Hare was delayed due to weather, and I did not have a credit card with me (how silly is that!), nor enough cash for both a hotel and cab fare. I can tell you.. that "Early American Airlines" style of furniture was not meant for sleeping--or comfort, in general!

Never been through DFW, but been through O'Hare - what a crazy place to get around in. I remember one time my plane arrived early and we had to sit on the tarmack for about 20 minutes because there was not a free gate for us to dock at. Looks like DFW wouldn't give someone that problem. Great images as well.
