Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
I went looking for our old 50mm thread and struck out. So I figured it was about time to start a new one. Here is an available light ISO 400 shot of my grandson Wesley Sunday morning with the 50mm f1.8 set at 1/40 and f1.8. For a very inexpensive lens it does a great job. Feel free to post up some of your 50mm f1.8 images in this thread.
PS: Let do amend this thread to the 50mm prime thread. F1.2, f1.4, f1.8 or f2 it doesn't matter lets see the 50mm prime shots.

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
You got something against 50mm f1.2's ?

Just a bill with a lot more zeros in it!

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
Nice shot and glad you started a new one. Been thinking about doing some 50mm shots just because.
Maybe the thread could be called the 50mm prime thread??
MB, I think you're using funny money..there aren't any bills with more than 2 zeroes

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
I'll play... but at f1.4... My pops old Pentax SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4, cheapo eBay chipped m42 adapter for focus confirm and SSS functionality.
Lens has heavy yellow cast typical of these older radioactive beauties, so I'm still learning how to properly adjust WB... First one is corrected, second is not... Yellow tinting somehow works for me in the second shot though.. All shots available light, tungsten based...

I'm loving what you guys are throwing up! Keep them coming. I may even have to drag out the Pentax H1a and the 50mm to add to the thread.

Dan from Jars of Clay
It was fun at the concert, all these pros with their long lenses, and then me right in the front row with a 50 1.8 and one who was browsing through my photos commented "You're getting better ones that I was!"

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
Everything above is fantastic. Well done, everyone. Your shots of Wesley are always awesome, OT. And I love that Jars of Clay shot, Axle.

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
Does this count? It was shot with a 50mm f1.8, reversed on a 100mm f/2.8 macro lens with 68mm or extension tubes.

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
Lord Mike! You do go through a bit of creative work to get what you want. I'd say it counts as it was the end lens through which all the light had to pass to get to the sensor.
Now what the heck is it?
Nice stuff everyone.

It's base of a leaf. This is the same leaf with just the 50mm.

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
I'll play - been a while since I had used mine. Last weekend we went to Fright Fest at 6 Flags. I brought the 50mm only and my SB600 triggered with the D300 off camera with a red gel on it for shot 2, the wife was holding the flash low and left of camera. Shot 1 was just the 50mm and shot earlier in the day.

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
Sorry, couldn't resist this little twist lol. And it wasn't planned either!
Hubby was polishing his boots and I focussed on the polish not realising, that was 50ml too! haha.
And, before you ask, yes, I shot this with my 50mm f/1.8

Since you relented on the 1.2 here is something you can spend some of the money you saved on.....
Gotta love the DoF.
BTW shot on a full frame 5D.

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
The 1.2/full frame combo makes the bokeh as smooth as cream cheese! : )
Nice work. Is this shot straight out of the camera, or was there a little pp?

OK you convinced me now that I have a full frame (D700) I'll have to buckle the 50 up and see how it performs.

Yep even in the Seattle area well 30 miles north we got a little snow last night. Our Kids(oops I mean dogs) could spend hours on end in it especially Nanook the husky. Bummed this shot isn't as sharp as I wanted in the Husky's face oh well. Shot with 50mm 1.8

No this is not typical of this lens. Even under low light conditions with good technique and a shutter speed of 1/60 generally you can get good results. Which 50mm do you have and what were your settings?

Re: Another 50mm f1.8 Thread
I have the canon f1.8 ver 2, with the rebel xsi. I used the p mode I forget what the settings were. no flash. are most folks using a tripod?
thanks for the reply, bob btw I used every mode and took somewhere in the area of 100 pics tonight and the majoraty where not very sharp unless I used a tripod
