    I've gone full circle.

But not film-to-digital-to-film, like you may have been thinking. Strangely, my first camera was a digital (Kodak DC280 about 3 years ago). Then I discarded it in favor of the control offered by an SLR and got the Nikon N65 (2 years ago). I think it's fair to say that a D70 will be quite an upgrade- I just put in an order with Adorama today!

One thing that I had really be getting sick of was spending a lot of time scanning slides, having to finish rolls, etc. I'll definitely be keeping the N65 around as my backup and change-of-pace body, but depending on when the D70 gets here, you'll be seeing a lot more photos from me!

Nothing wrong with going full circle. You'll enjoy the excursion into the DSLR world, but if you are like me, that film camera will never be too far from your side. We'll look forward to seeing some of your images soon.

    Talking Congratulations!

A D70 - wonderful choice from what I hear/read/see! I have the Rebel 300D which I love - but I also kept my Rebel 2000, basically for b&w. However, I haven't used it in a very long time. My photography time is limited - and I just can't seem to put the Rebel down!

I'm looking forward to seeing your pics. What lens/lenses do you have?

Keep us updated...and bring on the pics!

Interesting that you're full circle, back to digital - I think that's the first I've heard of that! As much as I love shooting digital, I can't see giving up film either. Black and white especially.

    Lenses

Ahh lenses. Well I started off with the good old Nikkor 50 f1.8, and also got a Sigma 28-135 f3.8-5.6 when I got the N65. (That sigma is a very nice lens by the way. I've never had any complaints with it, and the range is perfect for a lot of shooting.) I've also got a 24mm Quantaray, which I like for crazy closeup portraits, since it's also a macro lens. And finally, I've got a Sigma 300mm f4 prime lens, which is also nice, but a bit heavy at 3 pounds (I'm a backpacker, which you might guess from looking at my website). So I'll keep that around for the time being, but am thinking about trading it in for the standard Nikkor 70-300 zoom (not G!). Obviously not as high quality there, but it is much lighter. So I'll have to do some evaluation and see which lenses stay and which go. I'm looking forward to the D70 kit lens- its supposed to be a dandy. But first I've got to learn the D70, and before that, I have to wait for it to come off back-order and ship to me. Thanks for writing.

Both are cool. I'm sure you will enjoy the D70.

I just ordered the D70 last week. I'm fairly new to photography, but not new to researching things. The D70 seemed like a perfect choice to get me into a new hobby I have been very interested in for a long time. I hope to learn a lot.

That said, does anyone know how long these cameras are backordered for? Am I going to be waiting months (man, I sure hope not!), or will it come pretty quickly?

You might want to try Ritz Camera ... several of the Ritz stores here in Philly have 1 on the shelves.
