Holga, 35 mm, and sprocket holes

Well, thought I'd post a shot from a roll of expired 35 mm film ran through one of my Holgas. It sure wasn't what I expected but it has some pretty funkadelic colors!

Hmm, it also messes with my previsualization of what a Holga image might look like - since using 35 mm you have to remember that the top and bottom won't be inlcuded (so forget about the classic vignetting).

It's a shot taken while mountain biking.

That's some good stuff! Where's the rider?!

I love the colors. Expired film is a gamble. But when you win, you win big. I think the combination of the format, sprocket holes, film edge info, and funky colors are great here. But I really do wish there was a little more happening in the image. I like the boardwalk but it needs some sort of action, I think - at least a person walking.

Thanks for posting this. I hope this kind of photo inspires other people to get outside their comfort zone and experiment a bit. Photography really doesn't need to be pictorial and literal. And can be very messy and creative.

I like this a lot, it's rather dreamy.
The compostion is EXCELLENT!!
I like how the bridge meanders through the frame.
I agree that you have to work it it a little harder to compose the image just right.
But, sometimes things come together when least expect it and you get a great photograph!

Photo-John, This was shot on a solo ride - thought about parking my steed on the bridge in some way, but it just didn't happen. I agree, it bugged me at first, too, that there wasn't a bike riding over this cool bridge. Later I began to enjoy the weird look of it all, minus a rider, and figured this shot doesn't have to be about mountain biking...
