Took this photo while playing with an external flash

I found it interesting that the shooter speed did nothing to control the exposure,
as the flash is faster than the 1/4000 my D40 is capable

The flash has 3 power settings, I had it set at the lowest power, and was placed about 20 inches to the left , the cup in turn was about 20 inches in front of the camera which was resting over a couple of phone books.

I poured the water while my daughter pressed the shutter.

Focus was set to manual, and VR off.
