I don't what to tell you. This should be a pretty straight-forward thing. Seems you should be able to go to B&H and simply match the cord pin to the recepticle on your flash...

    What speedlite is it?

Here is an off-camera E-TTL cord for Canon EOS cameras and speedlites.

If your looking to hook it up to a pc sync terminal you can try www.flashzebra.com
They have lots of great customized cords adaptors for modified hook-ups.

Glad it worked out for you. I'm a bit surprised at your troubles because as Steve staed it should be a pretty straight forward thing.
The link I sent you from Adorama http://www.adorama.com/CAOCSCE3.html...non+e-ttl+cord
is for a Canon cord that has a hot shoe plug on both ends, one for the EOS camera and the other for the speedlite.
Its not very long, and so maybe the one you ordered from FlashZebra will be of greater reach.
I have ordered some things from FZ in the past and they are good with great service.
Let us know how it worked out
