    Need suggestions to reproduce a shot.

    I amateur seeking any suggestions on the lighting set-up to create a shot like the one attached to this post. Not exactly sure how to control the light well enough to keep the deep dark background and still bring out a specific portion of the face.

    Thanks to anyone that take the time to help me.

    Welcome, luxotic. Looks like the light, available or otherwise, is heavily modified (IOW controlled) to just allow a sliver of illumination to hit the subject.

    Think of it like being in a dark room and a crack in the door allows that strip of light in from the hallway. So that's how you modify the light source. You block the light with boards or flats to force the illumination to create a narrow strip of a path. The rest of scene you keep dark.

    Sort of trial and error with this kind of setup.

    BTW, it might actually be easier to acheive this kind of effect using photoshop to darken (vignette) the edges of the frame...
