    advices for dramatic lighting

okay, honestly i am quite newbi when it comes to the lighting cuz I rarely shot at studio except for products. These days, I saw a lot of beautiful dramatic lighting photos (sample:http://www.flickr.com/photos/subdisc/sets/) and I am just wondering how you can achieve this kid of look or they are using heavy photoshop? cuz this guy (http://famewhore.com/) took kind of urban photograph but how he can get the looke like super duper dramatic lighting and super sharp. Is that also cuz of the lens matter?

    just very curious

Without knowing for sure, I'd say the shots you link to are created with careful lighting...

BTW, there's no reason dramatically lit shots can't be razor-sharp. That's a factor of the camera settings, not the lighting.

Well, the sharpness of a shot will be affected the most by the camera's shutter speed (freezing any subject movement) and the focus and depth of field by the aperture...

If you're shooting on auto settings, that's fine, but you do have much less control over these things...
