    Go-KartT Fun

My son (Orange T-Shirt) and friends were having a little fun today with the Go-Kart. I know it may not qualify as a sport but I will be going to Eldora Speedway May 12 and judging from these pics I need some help. These were taken at 1/640 f/5.6 105mm. Any advice would be appreciated. YES he should be wearing a helmet, YES the GO-Kart stays broke more than working....but they do have fun. Momma was not happy with the mess......Took 1.5 hours of cleaning before we could bring the Kart in the garage.

Focus appears off. You can prefocus if you are having problems with focus speed.

Thanks. I only got to take a few shots so I wasn't able to play around much with the settings. These will also be the last shots as I have marching orders to gravel/seed the mess they made. I hope I have better luck at the speedway but my lens may limit me.

Looks like a lot of fun for the boys. Don't know why wives and moms have to be such spoil sports on things like this. If It took an hour and a half to clean the kart how long did it take to clean up the kids? Nice job Russ.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

1: You could try and rent a lens for the race.

2: read the Race Track Safety thread. I found the one photo with thr original message the night before you posted this thread and thought about doing a thread on track safety, then after reading this thread decided I better write it up.

3: ask the spoil sport....I mean your wife if she'd rather he run the cart in the road or in the yard? Grass can regrow, a life can't. I let the neighbors kids two houses away drive their four wheelers and dirt bikes around my yard because I'd rather have them doing that than doing other things they could be doing. It keeps them out of trouble and even after the entire summer and fall of doing this they didn't tear up my lawn. Of course their dad does have a couple rules, one of which is no riding when the ground is wet and the kids are cool with that. My only rule is they don't ride near my dog as it drives her nuts.

    1. Rent Lens. I have given this some thought. I just finished taking pictures at my youngest sons last track meet. I took as many as a could of both boys and girls and of course my son. The coaches are going to put together a PowerPoint for the kids. Some of the shots were okay but ugh. The frustration. Unfortunately I don't know how much of the problem is my lens and how much is me. Renting a quality lens might answer some questions. In the end, I think some of it I was just tired.

    2. Track Safety. Read and replied. Thanks for taking the time to re-write and post. I do have a bad habit of focusing on what I am trying to take a picture of and losing sight of what is going on around me. Your post with your own experiences will help me keep an open eye.

    3. Spoil-Sport. The kids were a mess, the go-kart was a mess and the yard was a mess. Kids are now clean, Karts clean and the yard is looking better and so is momma’s mood.

Our dog hates the Go-Kart too. We have to keep him inside when their riding or he will get hit. Cuz he likes to chase it. Drives us nuts inside barking and running from the front door to the back as they make their rounds.

My son now wants a 4 Wheeler......Good thing am already grey .

Well the boys were all treated to a water hose shower, clothes and all. They had to strip down in the garage, shower and leave in borrowed clothes. Ah but to be a kid again. Kids, especially boy’s luv to get dirty and mine are no exception. Mom's are Mom's mine was the same way.

Technique may make a difference too, as will practice, and more practice. Panning takes a lot of practice. There are some threads on panning here in the sports section, do a search for them and read up.
One thing you can try is panning on cars as they drive past your house....I find they rend to slow down though which means they go from 60 to 45 in front of my house.... burned a deputy on that one once, to this day he swears I sent the photo to the Sheriff because he got chewed out for driving too fast.....I deleted the photo though

    Thanks John,

It looks like I am going to have to postpone my visit to the racetrack. Looks like I will be shooting soccer instead. My granddaughters are playing in a tournament here in town the same day. Maybe next month.
