As AgingEyes said you need a fast shutter to stop the action with fast moving things. Not quite sure what a a300 is but will give this advice. No matter what equipment you have your first step is to use an ISO that will give you a decent enough shutter speed to stop the action. The next step is to put yourself in a postion to get the shots you want. Watch them skate and do thing and determine what type of shot your trying for. Then position yourself in a spot to get that. Some shots may require you to prefocus in a paticular area while others will cause you to follow the action. Doing this is like hunting. While you follow the action you will shoot through the action. Depending on the shutter speed your using this could give you some nice panning effects (blur).
