    Opening game HS football

Went down to the other end of the state to shoot what turned out to be a great game. The visiting Pulaski Co. team is ranked 9th in the state and lost a close one to the home team from North Laurel Co. 36 to 33. These are the kind of games I live for!

Nice action in that first shot, it's a shame the legs got cut off. Our season doesn't start until Sept 4th.

I'm excited about the start of the season a well. We have our first this week but on the road and I don't think I'll make it. Nice to have a little day light at the first of these early games makes all the difference. I very anxious to see how the D700 handles our poorly lighted field. I hope to get a few good receiver pics like your first one.

Thanks guys. Larry, that daylight will diminish quickly as the days go by. I'm trying a new flash bracket setup for the night shots. A lot of folks like the flash down on a monopod, but I hate using the monopod. I'm a hand held shooter at heart.

What are you trying on the night flash setup for football?

I'm using an Alzo Flip Flash bracket with 2 flashes mounted. It gets them about 16" above the camera and allows me to go vertical with the push of a lever.

I would have though above the camera was a bad idea, because of the shadow over the eyes from the brow of the helmet?

The receiver's head appears a bit soft in the first one and overall the image would be a great snap if their legs were in the frame and a portion of the top was cropped. The second image appears to have some color cast issue - a bit too blue on his face and arms, unless that's my monitor. Great timing on the first one.
