Rock Valley College Basketball vs. Joliet

Taken on Tuesday Jan 5, 2010. The first two shots are from my Canon Mk.II-N and the third is from my Canon 7D. For my own critiquing I realize that the backgroud is usually a mess and as a sports photographer it's a nightmare, but I was shooting with a strobe and I had to be at that position. So there is my own crtique. Thanks for viewing!

For a one light set-up these are very good. There are a few harsh shadows and the background can be distracting at times but the action is top notch. Still can't believe you've been shooting for a year.

Nice photos, Erik! Welcome to the site! The light looks good to me - maybe a little on the dark side, but no big deal. The top guy's face in that first one looks weird. At first I thought he was bleeding but I guess it's just hair. That's not a criticism about anything you did. It's just kind of a strange photo :-)

Heyyyy, wait a second! Are you two guys related?

Yup, we sure are. Erik is my son. He picked up one of my cameras a year ago and now he's a stringer for a local weekly, is the sports photographer for his college, was featured in Shutterbug magazine back in July and is also freelancing for the fourth largest newspaper in Illinois. Next year he'll be a photography student at Northern Illinois University. Not too bad for one year of experience.

Fantastic action Eric. You have an uncanny sense for catching the decisive moment. I know Chris must be very proud of what your doing.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??
