Teleconverter Questions

Hey all,

I recently replaced my Minolta Maxxum 5000 with the new Sony A100K. So far, I really think I made the right choice. All of my legacy lenses work, including my bloved BeerCan.

I was wondering if any of the current aftermarket 1.5-2.0x teleconverters (Such as Quantaray or Bower) will support my legacy lenses? Most specifically, I want to know if my BeerCan's AF will still function with the modern teleconverters? (with older ones, and my 5000 body, it did not)

The only one that I have found that is guaranteed to work is the Sony SAL-14TC and the SAL-20TC. But I'm much more likely to go buy a larger lens before I drop $450.00 on the teleconverter...

Thoughts? Suggestions? Critiques?

I would think they're work. Have you tried going to a big camera dealer and trying them out? That's your best bet. I know one guy who has the beercan lens. But I don't know if he has a teleconverter. I'll check in with him and see.

On a beercan the 1.4x TC will work in AF but the 2x TC will only work in MF . If I remember right it may work in AF in half it's range .
