    Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Lens

Does anyone have this lens to go along with the Sony A700? If so, have you taken any indoor sports pictures with it? What do you think about it?

I take a lot of indoor sports pictures of my grandkids and I use the Tamron 28-75 right now. I need a bigger zoom lens.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would really like the Sony 70-200 but YIKES - quite a price difference.

    Thanks.

I too am interested in this lens. There's complaints about it's focusing speed, not being a ssm lens, but no one will confirm on what body it focuses slowly? I understand that the A700 has a faster/higher torque AF motor, that actually strips the gears off of some (or one?) sigma lens. Right now I shoot with the venerable Beercan for those kinds of events, but at F4, still a bit slow, and soft.

Actually, according to some reviews, the Tamron rates higher for sharpness than the Sony G. People who have the Sony G defend it vehemently, but at the same time say there's QC issues on the G lens so be sure you can exchange it if you get a bad copy. The SLR gear review on the G lens shows pretty bad wide open sharpness.

If the Tamron focuses any noticable difference faster than the Beercan, I'd be more than happy.

Thanks BM for the reply. I am happy with my Tamron 28-75 for close up sports shots, so am thinking I would be happy with this new 70-200 lens. I would sure like to see some shots with it first though. And I do love to take pictures of my grandkids but really can't justify spending 1700.00 for the Sony.

    Thanks again for the reply.
