    Sony alpha pink image problem

Can anyone please tell me what is wrong with my camera, when I use it in night shots, I keep getting pink bits on the top of the image, like there is a leak or something. Anyone else get this??

Re: Sony alpha pink image problem

Ok, the problem could be on all alpha's. Try this on yours.. Set the noise reduction off, iso 100, manual setting on bulb. f stop whatever. But your lens cap ON the lens to ensure no light gets in. Take a shot for about 2 mins. Please tell me what results you have. Try changing the white bal settings to daylight or auto, and try again. Has anyone actuall taken a night shot longer than a few minutes on this camera? Surely I cant be the first.

It could be light creeping in from the eye piece , try using the eye guard and see if your still getting the same results. Report back what you find .

Hmm I've made many exposures from 30 seconds to 10 minutes with my alpha and I've had no such problem. I'd like to see a sample image of the issue.

Re: Sony alpha pink image problem

Hey, sorry it's been so long. I bought a canon and got rid of the sony, but you havnt had that problem?? Thats weird! I exchanged it at Argos, awsome, for a new one. But the problem was still there! I dont have any piks, but after a long exposure of about 2 mins or more, I got these pink bits in the corners! And up the top! Before I returned the second one, I went to Jessops, and Curries, tried it on theirs, and the same thing! I put the lens cap on, put the little rubber thing on the viewfinder, set it to: ISO 100, WB auto, shutter speed Bulb, about 2mins, noise reduction off... Same thing, but the pink was in a slightly diferent place, more to the top! So I tried taking the lens off, and putting the cap in the body, you know how tight that is.. Same thing. I've emailed sony, but they never get back to me.. It COULD be the WB setting. Please, can someone try it out! From all countries!

    Thermal noise ?
Maybe with noise reduction on it removes that in software?

The sensor will respond to infra-red, and if you're making a two minute exposure with no light getting into the camera - then what you see is the heat of the electronics.
It's problem in astronomical photography, which they solve by cooling the camera, or just the sensor.

Re: Sony alpha pink image problem

    Hey Guys,

    Noise reduction doesn't help.
I was taking photos of stars, ans then tested it with no light.. Outside it was about 5 degrees C. I waited until the lens adjusted to the temp and took a 3 hour photo. The pink was covering the whole photo. There was a lot of grain and I couldn't even see the streaked star trails! It's very strange. I have called the UK hotline, and the same thing happoned with their one...

    Any other ideas?
