Sony A330 lens compatibility help... please

Hi to all,
I've just become a proud owner of a new photography hobby and Sony A330 camera.
Very pleased with it, but unfortunately not very knowledgable.
I've just purchased and Opteka 650-1300mm zoom lens which I am told by the dealer that it is compatible with the Sony with the correct adapter. It fits, which is good news, however the camera will not recognise the lens and gives me an error message "the shutter is locked". I am told (again by the dealer) that I can overide this, but for the life of me, I can't figure how.
Can anyone help me to figure out how to switch off the shutter lock please????

It will only work in full Manual mode. - TF

there should be an option in the menu for something like "Shutter release w/o lens attached", at least it says that in the A700.

Also, like TF mentioned, only works in full manual mode.

On the A200, placing the mode dial on M works, check your manual. Let us see some of the photos too.
