    Rest in peace...

Looks like I'll be joining the alpha team.

Today after 1000's of shutter releases, countless miles, and some great times the 5D bit the dust (i am very much at fault). I can/could have it repaired, but figure I may as well go for the Alpha and get the extra resolution and other features it provides. It'll be here tomorrow.

If it were still available as the recent model, I'd get another no doubt.

When their time comes, you have to let them go. No matter how many good times you've spent together. Cherish the memories.

If it wasn't a plastic body, that'd be Rust In Place ?

With the speed at which technology is changing and the fact that there are still some issues that have not been totally solved such as picture noise, dynamic range, focus speed in low light, etc., it is probably best to consider DSLRs as still "disposable" or "obsoletable" and go for a middle range DSLR price-wise.

I agree Ronnoco. As long as there are certain issues and technology remains on this fast track, it's hard to justify some of the more expensive bodies. That is unless you are making the money to justify it, and I certainly am not.

Wing, I got the Sony Alpha.

That was a good write up , one question for you since you own/owned both camera's.
Knowing what you know about both camera's which would you pick bewteen the two ? I'm talking body only .
    Thanks for your thoughts

    Re: Rest in peace...

Well, that can be a difficult question. I'll try to give you some ideas though.

    5D has 6MP, A100 has 10

Anti-shake feature is better in the A100

Noise is better in the 5D

Buffer is better in the A100.

If I had a real choice, and the funds, I would use the 5D for low light, and the A100 for wildlife. The two compliment each other more than compete. I can certainly give you the go ahead on the A100 though. I'll attach some recent examples from the A100 just to give you some ideas beyond the test studio.

The b&w is from the 5D.

The barred owl (on the stump) is an example of DRO and how it dealt with the part of the subject in shade. A100,400mm. f/7.1, 1/200 sec.

The second shot is with the A100, cropped to 100%. ISO 800, Sony 75-300 4.5-5.6 @300mm.

My focus is off in the pear blossoms, but that is straight from the A100. ISO 400, 75-300 4.5-5.6(macro)

The Yellow rumped warbler is also straight from the camera. A100, 300mm, Exif still attached.

These are mostly just playing around with the new camera, I have been playing with settings in "real world" use to get ready for a trip in a week. We printed these they looked good, had good detail. Go for the A100, you'll be happy with it.

So, my answer is basically I would go ahead and get the Alpha. Hope that helps.

    Re: Rest in peace...

Thanks so much for posting and including the pictures . 99% of my subject matter is wildlife , I do very little indoor shooting. The Alpha sounds like the way to go with what I'm into shooting . Thanks again
