    Flash units?

Anyone have any experience with the Sony HVLF56AM or KM 5600HS flash units with the a100? I am looking to get one since the flash I have for my Maxxum 7 is incompatible. Thanks.

I have the HVLF56AM, but use it on a KM 5D. Is there a specific question you have though? I do know that the Sony flashes are more consistent than the KM versions.

Well, I've seen reports about underexposure issues. I don't know how much of a problem it is, or if 'user error' is playing a role in it? Do you have any such problems with it? Would you recommend this flash unit or would you recommend something else? Thanks.

    Re: Flash units?

I don't have problems with mine at all. However, there is also a Metz 54(something) that is available. One of the main reasons for issues surrounding the flash units is that the units are really configured to work with the newer D/ADI lenses. So, one must be aware of what lens they are using and how it will effect the outcome. The problem can usually be overcome with flash compensation, bouncing, or some sort of diffusion device.

So, IMO it is user error, or perhaps many people just aren't aware of this. It's not so terrible or difficult that it should stop you from getting the unit though.

    Re: Flash units?

Playing around last night, I found out that manual mode in my old flash unit works. I swear I tried it before but it always reset itself to ttl mode. For some reason now it stays in manual mode and I can control the flash output that way. This would be fine if my camera to subject distance stayed the same. However, I don't have this luxury when shooting at events. So I guess it's a temporary solution, but I still need a flash that can work in ttl/adi mode with the alpha.
