    Difference Between Lenses

    Hey everyone,

I am thinking of buying the Sony A290y. This is the dual lens kit and have a question:

There are 2 lenses (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665887592) and (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665887592), I was trying to find out the difference between the two. In what instances would I use each lens, how do they differ from each other. I understand the zoom is SLIGHTLY different but thats all.

I would really appreciate any advice,

    Limboy1

    Re: Difference Between Lenses

These two links are the same.

I think the two lenses that come with the Y model are the:

    - 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (the standard kit lens) and
    - 55-200mm f/3.5-6.3.

The first numbers are the focal length or zoom. The 18-55 will give a wider view at it's zoom lengths and the 55-200 will make things look closer.

    Re: Difference Between Lenses

LB1 - I'm new to digital photography myself, however I have had film cameras over the years and so the 'lens' thing isn't as daunting for me.
(Very) Simply put, the 18-55 is the standard lens, the 55-200 is the zoom lens. Look at the photo below (with acknowledgement to Phil for the zoom photo). The horse is what you get with the 18-55, the bird with the 55-200.
Hope that helps slightly. There will be Members who can answer a heck of a lot better than me.
