Big PROBLEM with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600!!!

I have a really annoying problem with this camera!!

Everytime I switch the camera on, a black screen appears with the word 'Access' written in the middle of it and then the camera promptly switches itself off.

However, this problem only occurs when the camera is in the modes that allow you to take photos and shoot movies, not when in the playback mode.

Can anyone help? I've only had the camera for a month and I don't want to have to fork out another £200 for another one.:mad2:

My guess is that the memory card isn't formatted correctly, or possibly it is write protected (can a memory card even do that?). There should be a way to reset the camera whether it be a series of buttom mashes, or and actual button somewhere that you can press. If its not that then I have no idea...

    Hope this helps

SD cards and Memory Sticks™©® have sliders that let you lock the card, disabling the ability to write to it. Check that first. If that doesn't help, try another card, the one you have now might be defective.

    I have the same problem.

Does anyone know how to fix it apart from taking the battery out and trying later?

Have either of you tried with different memory sticks?

I tried it with a different memory card, I tried attempting to reset the camera, and nothing worked. Eventually I took it back to the shop, and they refunded the money for the camera and the compatible memory card I also purchased, and I bought a new digital camera instead (not Sony). I've had no problems whatsoever with this camera, but I've probably just jinxed myself

Sounds like a good, honest dealer. You should give out their name so they get credit for being good people. And tell us what camera you got to replace the Sony!

Aah, yes, well I took the camera back to Argos. They're nice, decent people.

And I got a Kodak camera to replace the Sony one. It's awesome - would definitely recommend it

    What Kodak?

Which Kodak camera did you get? And why do you like it more than the Sony - aside from the Sony not working as you expected, I mean?

If you would be so kind, please post a review for your new Kodak, once you've used it long enough to know it well. You can post a review for your Sony too, as long as you used it enough to really get a feel for it. I know it won't be a positive review. But that's ok. If they were all positive reviews, there wouldn't be much point, would there?

Write a review for your digital camera >>

Congratulations on the new camera. Glad you got one you like. And thanks in advance for the review(s)!
