well, as many of you may know i am presently looking into getting a 28-200 zoom lens. upon searching though - I decided to toy around with the a200 in a store - just for kicks and giggles, the salesmen then decides to mention "wow, thats only $500 right now!"..

friggin a-hole. now im spending all my time and effort convincing myself i can and should do it. best yet he let me know that there was only one left...

grr... but yes im excited too! its a great little camera.

I have an A200 that I am using with a Sigma EF500 DG Super flash unit. As to weaknesses, auto focus has difficulty locking on in really low light but manual focus is a good work around. There is a slight shutter lag, but multi-shot mode works around that in fast moving situations. Skin highlights can be sensitive to being blown out, so I tend to minus the contrast one notch which works well too.

On the positive side, the video mode with stabilization is really high quality and even the voice quality inside was better than I expected from a built-in on camera microphone. Using the macro at the wide angle position helps the depth of field problem that is normal for close-ups. In shooting with a photographer using film at a wedding, I found that my shots with an A200 showed more detail, particularly in the wedding dress and blew up just as well to 8 X 10 and beyond.

For going in light, without the camera bag and extra lenses, or doing journalistic style photography, the A200 certainly fits the bill and in the case of the wedding, I was also able to provide a DVD which mixed still shots with video, titling, and animation.

Blown highlights is more of a digital camera problem than one limited to the A200. I underexpose with all digital cameras with the intention of adjusting the shadow and midtones later.
