50mm is the 1.4 that much better than the 1.8 ?

i love my a550 now i think i want to upgrade my lens or get a new one not sure.. i either want to upgrade my 1.8 to the 1.4 or get the sigma 30mm 1.4 but im just worried cos a lot of them have focussing issues dont they ?

any thoughts, this is for photos of my son and its heading into winter now so it will be mainly indoors.

I have the Minolta f/1.4 and it gets sharp at about f/2.8 - great at f/4. No focusing problems. - TF

I would definitely get the 30mm f/1.4, no point doubling up your 50mm's. The 1.4 is better, particularly in regards to border softness, but not *that* much better. 30mm is typically a lot more useful indoors, especially at f/1.4

I have the sigma 30mm f1.4, its a great lens but my copy does back focus, I have to manual focus just to get things sharp. However If you really want this lens, just buy it and test if the auto-focus is correct, if not return it and ask for a new one until you get a good copy. I think its worth the extra effort to try to get a good copy because it is one of the best deals out there.
