I bought the Sanho Hyperdrive Space after seeing it at PMA.
Please could you add it to the reviews section?

I'm impressed with it, does what it says it will.
Put in a card, it switches on, press copy, when it's done pull out the card, it turns off.
Can't get much simpler !

I am trying to design a version of this product more suited to me. One that also sorts out the images for me then keywords and processes them in Capture One while bringing me a cold beer. The infostore equivalent of a Lazyboy armchair ;o)

ENTRY
1) load images from memory cards into folders on the PC
2) copy from original folders to photographer/event folders
UPDATING
3) automatically update photographer/event/copyright etc as IPTC entries
4) use image recognition to find racecar numbers
5) using database of car/driver for the race
a) enter driver's name as IPTC keyword
b) enter team name as IPTC keyword
7) if no car number, use image recognition to find driver's helmet
8) using database of driver helmets
a) enter driver's name as IPTC

9) use FFT to establish regions of sharpness
a) rank image 0-5 based on sharpness
b) downgrade rating by 1 point for repeating low frequency noise (e.g. out of focus fence)

a) Flag as Pick on pressing Enter key

I have no decent DAM yet.
I'm trying to set up Lightroom, but it's sneering at my computer.
3.7Ghz Dual Core Pentium, 2G RAM and it's not even coming close to working with 70,000 images.
Oh it loads, it runs (sometimes), and it crashes spectacularly.

It works well enough to make me want to persevere, but if I need a hardware upgrade then I'm inclined to jump ship and get Aperture and a Mac instead - just for photography work.


That workflow is what I think I'd want for serious motorsport photography. I spend SO much of my time sorting out who's in the car, what car is it, which team is it, that my shooting gets far far in advance of my keywording. If my plan for bringing in a couple of friends to shoot events works, then we will need some smarts in the mix.

All my image retrieval is from memory. When it was taken, where it was taken, that is in the folder structure of the hard drive. Then I can recall what the image looked like and scan through the thumbnails (if Lightroom doesn't lock up) fast to the right file.

As my collection gets bigger, in the 30000 images per year mark (no they aren't all keepers!) then my pea-brain won't cut it. I have to have proper keywording.


OH another event based requirement.
For car trackdays (and other events) in software find the license plate and store the registration as a keyword.
Then look at neighbouring images for cars of the same shape/colour and assume if the LP is not totally readable that if there is a partial match then it's the same car.
Might as well store the vehicle colour as a keyword too.
