A pop-up just asked for my Email address...

...Well,maybe pop-up is not the correct term...I was reading Smart Wombats' blog,at the time.
As I am rather careful about giving it out,I took a quick pic and closed the small window.

I'm wondering if it had anything to do with having 2 windows open in Firefox3,
both had a PD Review tab open in them,perhaps it was just checking ?

I don't think that's coming from us. It doesn't look familiar. I would recommend scanning your computer for viruses and spyware, immediately.

It really looks like the kind of pop-up spyware might embed in your computer to trick you into giving up personal info.

I never saw anything like this. However, since I got my new computer I don't get any pop-ups. Sometimes I get a bulletin type message asking me if I want to "temporarily" open a pop up - this happens when I go to websites that include pop-ups on their pages.

It could be,but so far,this is the only incident-I do have AVG,pop-up blockers and various other anti spy programs running,which found no problem-doesnt mean I'm in the clear,tho.
I will post a Hijack log to a tech forum to see if anyone else sees a problem .

I don't think we've run any pop-up ads for a long time. And this type of pop-up is definitely something we would not allow. It is possible for people to install software that will make pop-ups appear randomly when you're on the Web. And it would be no problem for them to grab the URL of the site you're on to make it look like something official. I am very suspicious of this pop-up.

Me,too-deep into getting everything cleaned out and consulting some experts !

I have been scanning on and off all day-found very little,most scans are 100% clean,one found 2 ambiguous entries,which are getting checked right now.Possibly it was from a site I was viewing,not retained on my computer ?.

I'm clean-its official-but that does not mean the pop-up came from here.
-there are many other possible answers-will let you know if anything relevant develops.

:thumbsup: I salute the bunch that helped me-MajorGeeks are cool and extremely helpful guys,and I learned a tun while running thro' all the steps recommended-it takes a lot of the danger and guesswork out of dealing with your PC,if you did not grow up hacking into sites for fun and profit-
I don't think the UK was even computerized way back when...:blush2:
