I have created this post with the help of Pam (pweb) and Larry (Old Timer).

Hopefully, it will help in solving any questions/problems that you may have about the PhotographyREVIEW gallery. Comments and improvement tips are welcomed.

---------General Gallery Info---------

---------Finding the gallery---------

Place your mouse pointer on the “Share” tab on the top-right of the PhotographyREVIEW.com home page, and then select “Photo Gallery”. This will take you to “Gallery Index”.

---------Browsing the gallery---------

http://gallery.photographyreview.com/

Scroll down, and select any one of the list of categories – such as nature, macro/details, people – to find photos that relate to them. You can also view up to 18 images per page, and in different layouts – including thumbnail only, thumbnail & title, puzzle, etc..

---------Searching the gallery---------

Near the upper right of the "Gallery Index" page, click on a white link that reads "Search".

Searching can be accomplished by means of a large variety of criteria, including:

• Keywords.
• Camera used.
• Lens used.
• Film used. (Or digital).
• Person who posted the image.
• Posting date range.
• And more!

---------Uploading photos---------

- First prepare them for the web by following these simple steps:

#1. Open the image(s) in an image editing program, it does not need to be a fancy one such as PhotoShop – Microsoft Office Picture Manager will do as a starter.

#2. Perform any edits (cropping, sharpening, brightness, contrast, etc.). Remember to perodically save your work, just in case the editing program happens to be in a "crashing mood".

#3. Find the resize tool, and resize to somewhere between 400x300 – 1024x768 pixels for optimum screen viewing. If the image is going to be something like a noise-pattern sample, or chromatic aberrations, etc, then you may want to post full-size. There currently isn't a limit to maximum pixel size, or file size... which is one of the great advantages of the PR gallery.

#4. This step is optional, but highly recommended:

Watermarking your images.

“Watermarking” means embedding a personal logo onto the image itself, usually it is placed in either of the four corners. By means of a watermark, you can protect your photos from unauthorized use by other people. A proper watermark contains three basic parts, and reads as follows:

Copyright <Photographer’s name>, <year of first publication>

Example #1: Copyright A.M.D.A., 2009
Example #2: Copr. A.M.D.A., 2009
Example #3: © A.M.D.A., 2009
Example #4: Copyright © A.M.D.A., 2009
Example #5: Copr. © A.M.D.A., 2009
Example #6: (C) A.M.D.A., 2009

The copyright word can be replaced or complemented with ©, Copr., or leaved as a full word. Using abbreviations saves space.

Also, if possible, the word “All Rights Reserved” should be added to the end of the watermark. This further helps inform newbie photographers and the general public that the particular piece of work is not to be distributed or used without prior permission from the owner.

Example: © A.M.D.A., 2009 All Rights Reserved

You can make your own personal variation of the notice, like creating it in a special font, semi-transparent, etc. Just ensure that the already-mentioned basic parts are always included.

#5. Once you have performed edits, maybe added a watermark, and are satisfied with the way the image looks, it’s now time to upload!

---------Uploading---------

Right next to the “Search Gallery” link, you will see another link reading “Upload Photos”. Click on it to start the process and then follow the on-screen instructions.

---------Your own member gallery section---------

Each PhotographyREVIEW.com member has his/her own section of the gallery, where you can upload/browse/edit/move photos. To go to your section, near the top-left of the gallery index screen, you should see two links:

My Photos My Favorites

http://gallery.photographyreview.com/

Click on My Photos to go to your personal section of the gallery. This section will collectively display every photo which you uploaded to any of the gallery subsections (nature, portraits, scenery, etc.). Plus, you can upload a photo directly to your "member gallery subsection". If no photos have been added yet, the page will display as blank. My Favorites displays any images which you have marked as "Favorites".

To mark a photo as "Favorite", simply click on the option at the bottom of a particular image. The link then changes to "Remove from Favorites". Click on it again to remove.

---------Editing photos---------

It is always best to ensure everything is as you want it to be BEFORE uploading a photo, because there may be "glitches" when trying to edit.

Editing: Click on the small, white "Edit Photo" link at the bottom of any of your already uploaded photos. After the linked page loads, perform the desired edits and scroll down to confirm them.

---------Moving photos---------

At the bottom of a photo page, scroll down...

...and select the gallery section to which you wish to move the opened photo. (Drop-down-list). After the destination gallery is selected, click on the nearby “Submit” button to confirm.
---------Copying photos---------

Click on the “Edit Photo” link. After the page loads, near the middle of it you should see an option for copying. Follow the instructions.

Note that even if you move or copy a photo, it will always be visible from your “MEMBER GALLERY” page.
---------Deleting photos---------

Check the little check box at the end of any of your images , then click on "Submit" to confirm. The image will be permanently deleted. A deleted photo cannot be recovered, so always make sure what you are deleting.

Email notifications

The photo gallery features an e-mail notification system. Basically, you can choose to have an email sent to you whenever someone posts a comment or rates a certain photo(s). Right below any photo, there is a link that reads "Receive Email Updates". Click on it to enable. Once enabled, the link changes to "Disable Email Updates". To unsubscribe, simply click on the link again.

Photo/comment reporting

If you find a photo or comment which you think is in some way inappropiate, click on the white "report photo link". For reporting a comment, click on the little red triangle next to it.

Commenting, rating and providing feedback on images

One of the best features of the gallery is that it allows any member to comment/rate other member's work. Whenever you come across an image which you like – please take the time to comment and rate it. The comment/rate box is found at the bottom of every image page.

By clicking on the "Post a Comment" link above the text box, you can post a comment using more advanced features. You may edit your own comments after posting. Gallery comments also go toward your overall site "post count".

Finally, have fun uploading, viewing and commenting on any photos which you find interesting. There are many PR members who 100% stick to the gallery, never venturing out to other areas. Go take a look you won't regret it!
