    More Robust Upload Window Needed

While the uploading function itself works well for me (probably due to my cable connection), there needs to be a way to specify the order in which the photos show up on the rendered page.

I have tried to be conscious of posting different versions of the same photo in the same thread, because I know that eats a lot of storage space and bandwidth... so what I do is to rework the original photos and re-post them in the original post with edit notes. However, even if I use the exact same order I originally added them with, the order will often change.

I recently tried to do this in the "None Shall Pass" thread in the Critique Forum and it was kind of maddening to be honest. Originally the joust scene was third, not first... but whether I uploaded that reworked shot first or third, it now always posts first. There must be a default somewhere that the smallest or largest file among a group is displayed first, AFAICT.

We need to have some controls (pop-out menus would work) that allow us to specify where each photo will be displayed relative to the others. The alternative of course is to screw up the order, and subsequently cause everyone's comments to that point to refer to an order that no longer exists... OR, to just upload version after version in new posts which I think will utlimately be bad for this board in terms of the server loads, etc.

I think you can choose the order of your pics...

It's a little trickier than the automated method, but I'm pretty sure you can simply use HTML code to determine the order of your images...

Well, I'm not unfamiliar with HTML so if there's a back-door routine that would enable this, I could use it. But what about creating this functionality directly from the download window? That's where 99% of the people who are likely to post here are going to need it to be.

    I'll Pass It On

I'll pass your request on to the engineer in charge of the forums. However, customizing this forum software isn't something we like to do. It usually causes more problems than it solves.

I think I have a hack for you. You can upload photos to the gallery, which will spit out a publicly accessable URL, then you can use that URL from your message board posts. (See the insert image icon in the post message toolbar.) This way you can format your images and text any way HTML will let you.

Yeah, this is what I meant...

When I mentioned using HTML to arrange pics in a specific order, I realize now that they were on my web site server, and I simply plugged in the URLs with IMG tags. But the same procedure with the gallery URLs here should work too...

Thanks John. I'd appreciate it. BTW I meant "upload window" not download window in my earlier post. I understand changing these bulletin boards is not easy (I've managed a couple before) to get right on a first try, but I think this particular item might be worth a little fuss because image order will make a real difference to a lot of people. Especially when posting shots in a series for review.
