Ads are taking over my monitor

Several times over the last week, the ads on the right hand side of the page have stretched way out, squishing the forums on the left side of the page. Once I hit refresh it seems to be fine. Not a big deal, but something I thought you should be aware of. I'm running Windows XP if that helps. I didn't notice this happening on my Mac at work.

Here is a screen shot of what it's doing. I had to splice this together from 2 screen shots.

Yeah. It's happened to me, too. I was hoping it was a temporary glitch. Guess not. I will report it to the developers. And I apologize :-(

    Zoom, right?

Let me guess, you were using the Zoom feature on these browsers, right?

Turns out that Firefox (and maybe Safari, I don't use that) does not zoom pages correctly often leading to garbled nonsense just like your example. This bug is being fixed with the soon-to-arrive Firefox 3. For now, don't zoom or use Opera which does it correctly. It is not a site problem.

Nope. Didn't even know there was a zoom feature. I didn't do anything differently than I normally do. Just clicked on the bookmark to take me to the Forums page. It just pops up like this every once in a while.

I also use Firefox (version 2.0.0.12) but I have not experienced the problem.

Re: Ads are taking over my monitor

I am now using the latest version of Firefox (2.0.0.12). By enlarging the text just now, I have duplicated the exact problem displayed by the original poster. I can do it at will. Reduce the text size and the problem disappears.

This is listed as a known bug in Firefox 2.x and is said to have been corrected in the latest Firefox 3 beta. Its a browser problem, not a site problem.

Re: Ads are taking over my monitor

I am using 2.0.0.12 as well. I have had not had any problems at all on any other sites and it's only been for the past week and a half or so. IT's not all the time either, just every once in a while. I'll have to start making note of the ads when it happens. Maybe something to do a specific one???

Head over to DP Review, Geek.com, CNN, Netaddress, etc. All of these site have the same problem. They work fine under Opera but get garbled with Firefox 2. As I said, this is explicitly listed as one of the bugs being fixed for the upcoming Firefox 3 release.

    Here it Is....

OK, I have installed and am currently here using Firefox 3 Beta 4. The ads no longer mess up the way they did a couple messages ago with version 2. This is also true at three of the other sites I've mentioned. The developers have indeed fixed the Version 2 bug.

Just a note, this beta looks pretty cool. Visibly slower but it probably still has performance-eating debug code all over the place. It's still missing one Opera feature I really like but its definitely not a deal breaker. So far, no beta problems or crashes.

Oh yeah, they finally reversed the direction of the CTRL-scroll wheel so it works the way most people expect!

Hmmm...not in my case somehow. My default font is size 16 Times New Roman. Touch wood.

Re: Ads are taking over my monitor

Hey guys - I keep forgetting about this problem but I just finally reported it to the developers. I have seen it, but very rarely. It's a table problem with an ad at the bottom of the page, I think. Anyway, I think it will get taken care of now.

Re: Ads are taking over my monitor

I have had it happen to me as well, but only occasionally. I have not seen it do this for the last couple of days now. I am running XP with IE 7.
