Re: Guess what :). Individual in city.
I think I like this one the best of all that you have recently posted.
It says a lot.
I get the feeling that you were trying to make a statement on life in the city or something?
Doing something more than in your other photographs.
I get a rather lonely feeling from this particular photograph.
You did an outstanding job on piecing this one together! And doing it the darkroom in the darkroom no less!!
I am very impressed with this one!

Re: Guess what :). Individual in city.
I actually like this one a lot. It's less busy and it says a lot more than the other photo. This image (as "art") is quite poignant for me as over the summer I'll be living and working in city centre London. It reflects my feelings of being small, insiginficant and completely lost in a city as large as London. Yet at the same time, I'm really looking forward to it and the contrast this brings is well reflected in the photo and it's tones.
A much, much better photo and choice for the featured image, imho.
Chris

Good work, Laurie. A nice mood on this one and I like the compositionof the boy with his head down and your looking down on him. Gives him a humbled feel as he stands before the big city.

Laurie
Love the out of focus face, and the angle inwhich this was shot.
I think that the boys wearing lines is a good choice as opposed to a plain shirt. Makes the collage portion with the city much more interesting.
Great job. Keep it up.

Re: Guess what :). Individual in city.
Thanks for positive feedback guys! Really means alot.
Thankyou Hindey and Gahspidy, thats the kind of emotion I was trying to portray. I didnt feel certain about posting it at first knowning many people may relate to the feelings in this image, but from my experience growing up in a big city gives somepeople that sence of isolation.

Thankyou as well, i blurred the boy to try and give a feeling of perspective, looking at the city through the boy rather than looking at a boy with a city on his shirt.
And thankyou brian for making this the featured image this week!

Re: Guess what :). Individual in city.
Great double exposure!
This picture has a great feeling of the city (big and always present) and how one fits into this landscape (by being humble, blending in)
Your work has made me more and more excited for the darkroom class I plan on taking this summer...
Keep posting!
Cheers.

Sounds fun! im sure you will enjoy it, just get used to the basics as soon as you can, basic little things are the most essential. I can give you a few tips for you to keep in mind for when you get to your class if you want?

Re: Guess what :). Individual in city.
Laurie: This is very nice work, and it just works out perfectly! The sense of being just a small part of life in a big city (although technically, the person in the photo is larger than then building scale-wise in your photo, which is interesting) comes out loud and clear (at least to me) in this photo. Great job with this!

Re: Guess what :). Individual in city.
Laurie -
Sure thing, Thanks for the offer. Right now I'm reading "Black & White Photography" by Henry Horenstein for the basics(excellent book), but as I have found out, the members on this forum are a great resource and can explain things often times better than a text book or teacher.
Cheers.

Re: Guess what :). Individual in city.
Congratulations on the Featured Photo. This has a well finished appearance. The striped shirt adds an element that I like to the image. The model looking down at the scene finalizes what makes this work for my taste.-CDP
