    First Spring Training

    Hello all,

I was able to make it to spring training this year for for the first time. What a blast. Here is a photo I took at an Mariners/Angels game. Critique is welcome...

    Derek, that's pretty good.
There's movement in the bat and the ball.

I'd like to see his face, but that's not likely from this angle is it?
I'd like to see bat on ball, but that's a different shot.
And the follow-through with the ball about this far off the bat would be good too.

You said you've got more, how about posting some?

    More! More! More! More!

Tell us a little bit about how you shot this, too, What gear were you using? What kind of access did you have?

    Re: First Spring Training

Thanks for the comments. Shot with a Nikon D50 and 70-300VR. 3 FPS makes getting the bat on ball shot pretty difficult. Since then I've upgraded to a D90 with hopes of getting a few more of those "lucky" shots.

The first photo was shot at 300mm, 1/1250, f5.3 and AWB, ISO 200. Minor post processing.

    Shot straight from the stands.

    Here's another...

    125mm, 1/640, f6.3, AWB, ISO 200

I appreciate the feedback. Really looking forward to getting some good images of my son and his travel team this summer.

Luck counts. But stacking the deck in your favor counts more. The D90 should help with that
