    Rusting Reflections

Not sure what I think about this one ...has a lot of mood ...but, does it work?

    Re: Rusting Reflections

Crop that bottom part and you got yourself a winner!

Nice b&w tones, the objects create a nice perspective and depth, the silky water contrasts really well with the rugged structures. i even like how the tops of the pole things almost but not quite lineup.

    Such a nice composition !

    ditto on cropping the bottom

I would try and make the texture a bit more evident in the poles/beams

Thanks. I have been staring at it for so long, I can't tell any more. It does look better without the bottom texture ...I sort of like it, but it takes things in another direction ...not needed.

Woaaah, that is one awesome shot! I am going to nit pick then ;). I wish the last post was slightly more to the left. It is not overlapped, so maybe some fancy photoshop trickery can do the trick! I'm sort of torn on the bottom detail, I kind of like it, but kind of not, I'll just stay neutral on that then. Still - awesome shot!!

    Re: Rusting Reflections

The crop suggestion is compelling, and i agree it may be the right thing to do, but i like the texture of the water in the bottom. I would tone map it and bump the texture up a bit, but that is not necessary. What you have is very nice.

+1 for the bottom crop. Very much a print and hang.
I can imagine this as an album cover.

Thanks to all. Attached is the cropped version. Also, I attached the original cropped the same way. Someone mentioned doing local tone mapping, but I think when you see the original you will see that I used tone mapping quite a bit already ...not sure if more is doable ...

The original has nice hues also. But the B&W is stunning. Nice crop. Amazing photo. Well done!

Btw, is this a long exposure? what are the details of the exposure on this? curious.

    Re: Rusting Reflections

This was a ISO 100 f/22 with ND8 filter at about 1.5 seconds. The problem with doing this (as I found out) is @ f/22 my lens is no longer in a "sweet spot" so you loose sharpness ...and even with ISO 100 when it is a long exposure, you still end up with some digital noise ...but shooting 1.5sec. in daylight was interesting anyway.

I kind of like the shot NOT cropped- It just has a little more depth and adds a secondary interest for the eye to play off of as it travels through the frame. Really nice photo!

I know I'm coming late to the party, but I really like this shot - in B&W and not cropped. Excellent processing and tones throughout.
