    Reflections

I posted this in the best of 2005 thread, but wanted to put it here to get some feedback. This has been one of my favorites of mine and one that many others have liked that have seen it. So now, brothers and sisters, what say you?

great photo. the composition is really good, with the curve from top left to bottom right of the ripples hitting the rocks/weir working really well. very well balanced image, and extremely pleasing to the eye.

    good job,

    anew.

Srobb - I like the top half. As your eyes move down, you are given visual information that tells you the trees are reflections. I think it's better not to know, to make the viewer guess at it.

Here's a crop of what I mean. It just leaves some mystery there...

    Re: Reflections

I like the overall image but agree with GB that it needs to be reframed/cropped. The ripples and motion in the water though I believe must be included. The colors of and from the trees make this image something other than another muddy water shot.

The feeling of being captured in the swamp could be greatly enhanced several ways including readjusting the range/contrast of the work or perhaps intensifying the colors while reducing the overall brightness. I'm talking very small and cumulative changes to just push it over the edge.

In a fairly quick glance here, I'm almost seeing a portrait oriented framing as well of the left portion of the photo. It needs the mystery and captured motion more clearly defined.

Do you have any others from this setting?

    Re: Reflections

Thanks for the comments. I was hoping it would go over well here. I want to look into making some larger prints of this and would like to have the best image to work with.

GB, After getting used to that cut off at the top, I think it does look a little better. At least not as easy to tell the trees are reflections.

drg, here is a portrait crop of the left side with part of the top also cropped as GB had suggested. I knd of like this.
