    Canon EOS 1D for $399?

I found this post on Craigslist and was wondering if it was a scam.
    How is this camera?

    Would love some input.

"Includes Canon EOS1D. 50mm EF 1.8 prime with UV filter. 4 Batteries. 2 Gig mem CF card. Charger. Will consider trades. No law ballers. This camera cost 5k when it first hit the market and with this lens included this is a very good deal.

I am in the coast guard and Im being shipped elsewhere and need to buy something smaller. Thank you."

Re: Canon EOS 1D for $399?

Here's another link to the camera: our own Canon EOS-1D user reviews >>

If it's the original EOS-1D we're talking about then that price does sound about right. I bought the original 1D back in 2001, I think. It was the first digital SLR that I felt was a worthy camera. I paid over $5000 for it and it served me well for a few years. I haven't used it for quite a while, though.

I would not recommend it at this point other than as a collector's item. Although it's super fast and has an awesome build, the sad truth is that just a few years later the image quality and resolution aren't even close to competitive anymore. Instead, I would steer you towards something like a used Canon EOS Rebel XTi or XSi. Unless you absolutely need the speed of the 1D, or you plan to be pounding nails with it, I think a more recent entry-level digital SLR will serve you better. And you should be able to find an XTi for about the same price
