    Just Another Roadtrip

Jenni and I made the first mountain bike roadtrip of the year, last weekend. We drove from Salt Lake to Moab, about a four hour drive, to meet some friends and ride some of the best trails in the world. Of course, I took a few pictures.

    Porcupine Rim

Porcupine Rim is recognized as one of the best mountain bike trails in the world. It began as a jeep trails (it still is) and now mountain bikers make the pilgrimage from all over the world. Partly to ride the red sandstone and partly because it's also one of the most beautiful locations you can ride in. It also has some very technical riding. You don't have to do this stuff if you don't want to. But there's plenty of risk to be had, if you want it.

In the first photo here, our friend Wendy, an ex pro downhill racer, shows a bunch of guys how to hit this drop. Before she hit it, they were just standing around talking about it. Someone actually pointed out to her that she could go around it. After that, she had to do it. Of course, she lives in Moab and has done it tons. But the guys were all impressed and then she let them follow her so they could do it to.

    Jenni's First Porcupine Ride

This was Jenni's first Porcupine ride. She was a champ. She really stepped it up. This was a great way for her to start the mountain bike season.

    La Sal Mountains

This is a Panoramic of the La Sal Mountains, stitched from three Canon EOS 7D images.

Click on it to see it bigger and better in the gallery. This little version looks pretty crappy.

    Homeward Bound

A couple point-and-shoot (Casio Exilim EX-G1) photos taken from the car on the way home. The first one was taken just as we headed out of Moab. You can see the La Sals and the redrock. That's why I took it - Moab in the mirror. Classic.

The second one is the Wasatch Mountains viewed from the east, which means we're getting close to home. Salt Lake City is on the "Wasatch Front," at the western foot of those mountains.

I wish I had the guts to ride stuff like that...but then again maybe I would if we had stuff like that where I live.

If only I was young again.....sigh.
Wish we'd get a few days of sun like that....all we've had for a while is mostly gray and rain with brief sun breaks.

    Re: Just Another Roadtrip

Thanks for all the comments, guys! It was a good trip and I'm glad some of you enjoyed a few more mountain bike photos. I recommend Moab as a photo destination. No matter what you're in to, it's a beautiful and surreal place. You don't have to be a mountain biker to appreciate it. Arches National Park is just outside town and there are all kinds of things to do.

We've jumped right back into mountain biking again so prepare yourself for my obsessive mountain bike photo posts. You might have noticed I was missing for the past few days. That's because I was in Colorado attending the annual Fruita Fat Tire Festival...
