    Bottle of white...

This was an astoundingly difficult shot to expose the way I wanted (23 attempts to be precise). Very little PP - removal of dust specks and a saturation boost, little bit of vignetting at the bottom. My question is, does it need something else - corkscrew, glass, whatever - or does it stand ok on its own?

I do think you got the exposure right.
I wouldn't have thought of adding something except that you asked.
How about a red rose with the stem going under the neck?

What is the purpose of the image?

    I dont know, maybe a gun:devil:.

    Maybe a goblet, hrmm....

It stands fine on its own, if thats what you're going for. The dead space isn't distracting or any problem for me.

Very subtle on the neck of the bottle.

    Re: Bottle of white...

I would add a nice glass half full of white wine well illuminated. Also my personal taste says that he green of the bottle should be a tad more illuminated towards the neck....also the hard shadow on the sticker might improve with a softer decay.
    Nice shot Jet.

    Re: Bottle of white...

Maybe a wine glass a bit behind the neck of the bottle,(empty as the bottle hasn't been opened yet) hope you enjoyed cleaning up after this shot...

    Re: Bottle of white...

Not sure what you can add to this composition unless a couple of glasses in the bg blurred softly.
I think its important that the bottle be lit as well as it possibly can, bringing out all the outlines and illuminating the liquid inside.
The main issues i have with the lighting now is the cap seems to be lost yet the rim just under it is lighted making the bottle appear to lose its top, the label is a bit bright compared to the rest of the lighting, and as another pointed out the neck area is almost without any illumination.
I know these are tough, and usually require special liighting tables and set ups. Actually, it seems these days many images of products are designed in computer using CG rendering.

    Re: Bottle of white...

Maybe is my old monitor but I don't see a bottle delineation at the top which to my taste should show and I agree with others that a glass showing the product – in this case wine- should be part of the pic if it’s an ad for wine.

Really, if it is an ad for wine the bottle itself is of secondary importance –only needed as product recognition “if”- so I would say that the important elements are the bottle label and the glass with wine in first plain which should be very inviting to take a sip.

Another possibility that comes to mind is –being white wine- is to put the bottle on a crystal ice tub/pot showing the label besides the glass of wine…showing the bottle cork some place around may also work specially if its branded

    Re: Bottle of white...

The composition doesn't work for me because of the lighting, I think.

The top of the bottle being lost in the dark, the light under the bottle, the label being a tad bright and for me its a little two symmetrical with the frame it that makes sense and needs a glass and a corkscrew to finsih it off.

    hope that helps.

    Re: Bottle of white...

Wow, surprising amount of interest! I appreciate all the comments and suggestions. I have one other version from last night's little experiment which addresses the need for more illumination on the neck, the glow-in-the-dark bottle top, and the softer shadow fade. (I also had a couple with the glass really bright, and the cheap bottle really starts to look like crap). My original intent was more of a moody low key feel, rather than a "Buy this wine!" vibe. I will try it with a couple of glasses this weekend - I like Gary's idea of having them in the background out of focus,
but now I need to ponder how to light them...
