    Short-eared owl in flight

    Well, it's that time of the year again. Taken in the morning. I didn't expect to see them; always thought they only showed up late in the afternoon. Foggy day though.

    And I have a feeling that unless you use bait, the chances of them flying close to you is minimal. Harriers are much more friendly in that regard

    Wow! Those are wonderful shots. I love how the owl stands out against the foggy background in these.

    Very high on my favorite raptor list! Some great images too.

    Short eared owls are typically seen the last 30 minutes of light, but on cloudy days will hunt all day long if food is abundant. You can find them perched in secluded area all day long if you are lucky though

    Outstanding shots! Love that last one especially.

    I'm keeping my eyes (and ears) open. I've only seen them twice and I was captivated. We are starting to get reports of harriers in the area now.

    Oh, short-eared owls and harriers sometimes they fight each other for preys.
