Short-eared owl in flight

Well, it's that time of the year again. Taken in the morning. I didn't expect to see them; always thought they only showed up late in the afternoon. Foggy day though.

And I have a feeling that unless you use bait, the chances of them flying close to you is minimal. Harriers are much more friendly in that regard :)

Short eared owls are typically seen the last 30 minutes of light, but on cloudy days will hunt all day long if food is abundant. You can find them perched in secluded area all day long if you are lucky though :D

I'm keeping my eyes (and ears) open. I've only seen them twice and I was captivated. We are starting to get reports of harriers in the area now.
