Black Crowned Night Heron

This guy was at the "Click Pond" pump station next to the Viera Wetlands.

I don't want to hijack your thread but I took this several months ago and thought that it was a Crowned Night Heron but it looks different. Is it one also? Jeff

Grandpaw, what you have in your picture looks like a Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron, whereas what irarunyan has is a true Black-Crowned Night-Heron, at least by my birdbook (National Wildlife Federation Field Guide to Birds of North America). Either way, both are great images. HTH.

Your bird is a Yellow Crowned Night Heron

Thanks Western Guy and Ira for letting me know what it is. I looked it up in my son's book when I took it but couldn't remember exactly what it was. I am asking Santa for a book of my own for Christmas. Thanks, Jeff
