    Sleeping Bear Dunes, August '08

I'm revamping my website albums so I'm sorting through a lot of pictures in Lightroom. Stopped at Sleeping Bear Dunes last August coming home from Leelenau, really hazy, unfortunately, but I'm finding myself liking this little series the more I look at the pictures.

The sense of scale is quite good. I wouldn't want to clime 450 feet up in loose sand!

I really like the sense of scale, and slope, in the last picture.
I know someone's gong to suggest cropping the sky, I tried and I'm not sure it's better that way.

I've never been to that spot (close though ) but especially the last shot does a great job of showing the scale. Hot and hazy, yet cool and breezy all at the same time...

I was there when I was 19 and fit. The climb was vigorous, but I don't remember it affecting me too badly. I should try it now, lol! (I should live there and climb it every day, in fact.)

Beautiful place, but honestly all I remember about Sleeping Bear Dunes is a still image in my head of being halfway up the dune, looking face-forward at the sand. Thanks for posting these, now I know there was actually water and a view! I'd forgotten that part.

    Thanks guys,

I'm glad I got the sense of scale. It's pretty hard to tell even when your there until you realize those little specks at the bottom are people! I think that's why you see so many attempting it despite it being rather strongly discouraged by the park.

If I recall, the day we were there someone got stuck at the bottom and couldn't make the climb back. The park rangers had to come and help him.

LOL, and Opus, I'm glad I could help you recall there was more there than sand in front of your face for a 450 foot climb.
