The other side of the river...

I went back to the river yesterday to see if the pelicans from Sunday were still there. This time, I was on the other shore across from where I work. As I pulled my car off to the side of the road, my first surprise was to see George the eagle flying by! I thought he had left and gone back up north like 3 weeks ago! He would not come close this time for a good shot, so this poor shot is just for yuks.

The 1,000+ pelicans had left except for a few laying out on a little island. This is one crowded little piece of land as you can see! Really cool to finally see some heron nests.
Wishing I had a 500mm lens, I took some closer shots of fowl.

    One more...

This guy swam right up to me. Maybe folks feed them over there.

That's a really cool little island. Maybe you'll get to see eggs hatch.

Probably looking for a free handout Kristine ?
They are usually quite friendly, and have little fear of humans, particularily if they get fed regularly, but they are cautious, and even moreso when the young have hatched.
It is really neat to watch the parents tending a young family of 3 to 9 fluffy yellow goslings, and it also presents a great photo opportunity !
I'm guessing we'll probably see more fine shots from this location.

Re: The other side of the river...

Last year at my job with the two drainage lakes, I got friendly with a family of them. I don't have a photo of when they were babies...
Eventually they let me walk within 5 feet of them! They are all over the place there as you can see. (shot with point and shooter)
